About Mindful Mixture and Me

Welcome to Mindful Mixture the blog home of  Maurie Kirschner.  I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, am married to a wonderful man, and have four very opinionated feline companions.  I am a woman of many varied and eclectic interests and have a passion to be mindful in every aspect of my life.  I also hope to put a little something out there that might be of use to others who are on their own journeys.  This is a personal blog.  It will be personal.  It will also be as genuine and true as I know how to be.

Mindful Mixture came about after I decided to pull all of my blogs into one place.  I wanted to present myself holistically yet allow for visitors to more easily explore the various topics I might write on.   In this way it would allow them to nibble at what they might enjoy or be nourished by but hopefully not be overwhelmed by the eclectic-ness of who I am.

Currently the blog is in its bare bones form.  I have plans for pages that will dive into several of the topics covered in the blog and also have lists of websites, links and other tidbits to explore.  This is a work in progress so be sure to check back often for new goodies showing up on the blog.

For now I have categorized all my old posts so that they are easily perused. There are ten categories at this point.

Random Ramblings is just that, random and sometimes rambling.  When a post doesn’t quite fit in any other category or maybe fits several, this is where it will be.

Purely Delicious is where all of my food posts are.  These include recipes and reflections on food and food issues.  I have over time, due to serious health conditions and my own personal philosophies,  become an organic, chemical-free and mostly vegetarian foodie.  These things are reflected in my food writing and recipes.  You will find things that are both pure and delicious!

Conscious Home will have posts that cover green living, natural organic products, simple living, conscious shopping as well as just stuff around the house.

Natural Health will include ways to get and stay healthy – something I have a lot of practice striving for.  I am a certified herbalist and a big proponent of natural health methods and of people understanding and working on their own health.  I hope I can cover these topics in a way that is both personal but also has much for others to glean from.

Naturalist’s Notebook is where I’ll share my writing and reflections as a naturalist.  I have studied the many aspects of nature and have a love for the natural world.  I have  both a scientific and spiritual approach to my study of nature and both will be obvious in my writing.

Out & About will cover any adventures I write about, be they of the around town sort or epic wilderness adventures and anything in between.

In the Garden will have all the garden, play in the dirt, grow beautiful and yummy things writing.  My husband and I have a small community garden plot where we garden and a little bit of space at our home.  Gardening is something that feeds my soul and my body and that is one of the best combinations ever!

Playing with Words is the spot to go if you want to read any of my responses to writing prompts as well as any poetry and other creative writing I chose to share on the blog.

Eclectic Artist is the place to go to see some of my VERY eclectic dabblings in art.  I only recently got brave enough to share this stuff so the category has lots of room to grow.

Spiraling Journey will have any post that I feel has a spiritual feel to it and where I might share my own spiritual journey as it continue to develop.  My personal spiritual practice is as eclectic as every other aspect of me but is primarily a blend of both earth-centered and eastern spiritual practices.  A spiritual journey is all about going inward and in doing so finding that outward connection that is beyond just ourselves.  Here there will also be writing about some of the tools I use for self exploration and meditation such as the Tarot and its kin.

Again, welcome to Mindful Mixture, may your explorations here be fun and fruitful.

  2. Maurie, it is you!! I ready your post and was thinking that there was something familiar about it…I just love it and the painting to accompany the words. Now…you have no idea how happy I am to see all these blogs. A woman after my own heart. I have often wondered how I could get all mine under one roof. You have done it perfectly here. You are my inspiration!
You will have to tell me some time how you find wordpress. I am starting to feel that I am ready for the changeover.
Great to see you are writing away!

    Jeanne xx
